WHAT IS FREEMAN THEATRE COMPANY?

The Freeman Theatre Company (FTC) is a student-driven club. It is the extra-curricular extension to theatre studies at Freeman High School. Membership is open to all students at FHS who wish to take their theatre skills to the next level. Enrollment in a theatre class is not required, but encouraged. Membership in the company is obtained by filling out a form (found on the Callboard) and paying the company membership fee of $50. Production students are required to join. All others are optional.

 

Membership entitles students to: 

 

• FTC t-shirt

• Invitations to attend FTC outings, activities & skills workshops

• Opportunity to apply to participate in FTC shows

• Opportunity to earn points toward membership in the International Thespian Society, 

• Leadership, performance and community service opportunities, and 

• Voting rights at FTC meetings. 

HOW DO I JOIN FREEMAN THEATRE COMPANY?

Membership in the company is obtained by filling out a form (found on the Callboard) in the theatre classroom and returning the form signed by a parent and paying the company membership fee of $50. Membership fees are paid through pay-n-go. Students and parents will be informed when the link is live to accept payments.

HOW DO I AUDITION FOR THE SHOWS?

Pay attention to the callboard in the theatre classroom, follow social media channels for announcements, and look at the calendar of events on this webpage for audition dates and times. 

IF I'M IN A THEATRE I-IV CLASS

DO I HAVE TO BE

IN A SHOW?

Yes. The extension of all theatre classes is a public performance. Per Texas TEKS, students may be required to perform for a live audience. See the courses section for further details.

IF I'M IN TECHNICAL THEATRE DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN SHOWS?

Yes. See the courses section for further details.

WHEN ARE REHEARSALS?

Rehearsals are typically M-TH, or M-F from 2:45p.m.-4:45p.m. Weeks that have less than 5 rehearsals, usually means there is a holiday or teacher workday that week. There are 2-3 Saturday rehearsals per show which require both actors and techies.

DO I HAVE TO GO TO REHEARSAL IF I'M IN A THEATRE-I CLASS?

Only if you auditioned for a Fall or Spring Show and were cast are you required to attend rehearsals. For the curriculum showcase you rehearse in class.

HOW OFTEN ARE

REHEARSALS FOR TECH CREW?

Technical Crew leads are required to attend all rehearsals. Tech crew members are encouraged to attend all rehearsals, unless otherwise arranged.

HOW DO I JOIN THE TECH CREW FOR SHOWS?

Pick up a form in the theatre room and return the form by the deadline. Attend an audition day for your interview. Follow social media channels for reminders.

ARE WE DOING A MUSICAL THIS YEAR?

Musicals are expensive to produce. Securing the royalties paid to the publisher alone can start at $3,000 and cost up to and onwards of $10,000 depending on the title. This does not include set construction materials, costumes, or props. Therefore, musicals are typically produced every other year. We will not be doing a musical for our inaugural year. 

HOW CAN I BE A PART OF THE THEATRE SOCIALS?

Join the Freeman Theatre Company by paying your $50 membership fee. The first social is open for all to attend and to gain insight into the company.

CAN I PLAY SPORTS & DO  THEATRE?

Yes. Students must clearly communicate their game schedules on their audition forms. Students must also clearly communicate their rehearsal and performance schedules with their coaches. Students can participate most effectively during their off season sports. Year round athletes will find it difficult to participate.

CAN I GET A SHOW FEE OR COMPANY FEE REFUND?

No. Show and company fees once paid, are non-refundable.
